IT must have been a sight for the local harness racing fraternity: more than 5000 people packed the stands and lined the home straight on Sunday to welcome harness racing to Melton.
Some, like the large number of Melton-based trainers, drivers and breeders, would say it was more of a home-coming than a new beginning.
Either way, the large turnout at Harness Racing Victoria's $45 million home, Tabcorp Park, would have been a a welcome sight 20 years after the dream to build the sport its own home was built.
The dust from Sunday's grand opening will have barely had time to settle when the action starts again on Friday night with the Vicbred Super Series Finals.
