A QUALITY field will put Eynesbury Golf Club on the map this week when it hosts its first major pro-am event, the Blue Ribbon Foundation Masters on Friday.
West Australian Open winner in 2009 and European Tour Card holder Michael Curtain will be one of 60 professionals competing for a share of the $25,000 prize pool.
The inaugural staging of the event will cater for some of the promising golfers in the Melton and Bacchus Marsh area, along with a strong field from the Australian tour.
Celebrities including former Richmond football star Matthew Richardson, international cricketer Damien Fleming, ex-Melbourne AFL player David Schwarz and sports commentator Anthony Hudson will take part in the pro-am.
Groups of four with one professional and three amateurs will hit off as early as 7.30am on Friday.
A total field of 220 is already listed to play.
Other golf professionals set to play at Eynesbury include Matthew Griffin, former Victorian Open winner Ashley Hall, and current leader of the southern division pro-am order of merit Adam Porker.
Players to watch with local connections include Bacchus Marsh's Josh Younger, and Melton's Luke Veith, Ben Bunny and Ryan Ward.
The best professional in the tournament will pocket $4500.
Veith, who works at Eynesbury, said past big corporate days had led the club to adding the professionals and staging a bigger tournament.
Club pro David Tapping, who will also compete, said staging the event had taken a new level of commitment.
"It's been a massive undertaking to get the event up and going from scratch."
