WSDCA: Melton South's Beckett bags a bucketful

10 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
DARREN Beckett's six-wicket haul spearheaded a seven-wicket win on Saturday that has kept Melton South in the race to be Williamstown District Cricket Association A2 Turf minor premier.

Melton South chased 108 in just 29 overs in a one-sided win at John McLeod Oval in Deer Park.

Deer Park Ardeer bats folded as Beckett claimed 6-27 after Melton South sent the home side in.

Chris Camenzuli (2-26) was the only other multiple wicket-taker as Melton South bowled out its host in the 39th over. Dean Pirro (46) and Leigh Edwards (31) made the bulk of the runs as Melton South reached 3-110 off just 29 overs in reply.

Footscray ANA leads the A2 Turf ladder with 30 points from Melton South on 27, while rival Melton Central, which had the bye, is on 24 points.

Melton South hosts Footscray ANA in a top-of-the-table one-dayer this weekend, while Melton Central starts its new year at home against St Johns.

* WSUCCA action returns to the crease this weekend with Rockbank hosting the Williamstown Congs in the first day of a two-day game at Ian Cowie Reserve.
