VSDCA: Melton's Harwood sends Kew packing

31 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
SHANE Harwood ripped through Kew to deliver an emphatic 181-run win for Melton in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association at the weekend.

The Lions were defending 8-273 from the previous weekend but were never in danger of giving up a big score in reply at Victoria Park in Kew.

Harwood's 5-29 off 14 overs had Kew back in the sheds, 92 off just 44 overs.

Melton drew level on points with Kew at the top of North West first XI with 48, albeit still behind Kew on percentage in spite of the lopsided result. Plenty Valley is a game back on 42 points in third.

Brad Jones (1-14) struck first for Melton on Saturday before Harwood followed with three top-order scalps to reduce Kew to 6-48.

Melton batted out eight overs of a second innings to reach stumps at 1-26.

The Lions will continue their pursuit of first place on the ladder this weekend with the opening day of a two-dayer at home against Werribee (seventh, 24).

Melton faces Balwyn

In Twenty20, Melton will try to return to the final when it takes on Balwyn at Balwyn Park this evening.

Melton eliminated Balwyn at the semi-final stage at MacPherson Park last year.

The winner will meet the winner of the clash between Oakleigh and Caulfield in the final.
