MELTON needed just 41 overs to obliterate Coburg in Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association at the weekend after bowling out its visitors for 56 on Saturday.
The North West first XI's second-placed team was a mismatch for the ninth-placed Coburg outfit, which was beaten by seven wickets at MacPherson Park.
The dominant win couldn't move Melton any closer to ladder leader Kew, which leads the table with 48 points from the Lions on 42.
Altona and Plenty Valley remain within a game of the second-placed Lions on 36 points each, but both have inferior percentages.
Shane Harwood claimed 4-11 off nine overs and Brad Jones 3-16 from his spell as Coburg fell into danger of being bowled for less than 20.
Only No.11 Monte Ivancevic (20 not out) could make it to double figures as Coburg was all out for 56 in the 27th over.
Melton's Michael Alexander made an unbeaten 31 opening the batting to lead the reply, with teammates Mick Allen, Nathan Geisler and David Kirk being dismissed for single-figure scores.
Melton reached 3-57 in just 85 balls.
In Twenty20 action, a midweek defeat at Yarraville failed to push Melton out of the quarter-final positions at the top of the western pool.
Melton was all out for 97, while Yarraville made 4-98.
Melton's three-win, one-loss record (18 points) trails west leader Werribee by percentage only, the duo being ahead of two-and-two teams Altona and Yarraville (12).
