MELTON'S blazing bats made a run-a-ball target look tame on Saturday as the Lions won by eight wickets against Broadmeadows in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association.
The Twenty20 match yielded just five wickets for the bowlers, but the home team at JP Fawkner Reserve failed to exploit the advantage of wickets in hand.
Broadmeadows won the toss and batted, posting 3-120 off the back of 30 from Tim Branagan and 29 sundries, 22 of them wides.
Nathan Allen (2-29) was the only multiple wicket-taker for Melton, while Nathan Geisler was the most economical with 0-16 off four overs.
Melton reached 2-121 off the first ball of the 17th over, winning with eight wickets and 17 balls to spare.
Mick Allen then led the run chase with an unbeaten 56 at the top of the order, assisted by Michael Alexander (21) and Adam Johnstone (32).
Melton is second on the North West first XI table with 36 points, behind Kew on 42, and faces the ladder leader in a two-dayer at Victoria Park starting this weekend.
