DESPITE feeling "pretty happy" with how his side is going at the moment in the Western Suburbs United Churches Cricket Association A grade competition, Melton South coach Leigh Edwards
says his players need to work on their fielding ahead of the upcoming finals series.
South occupies second position on the ladder and heads into the final game of the season against StJohns full of confidence after beating Altona Sports last week, but Edwards still feels his side has a lot of work to do.
"I'm happy with how we're going but still feel we need to work on some areas of our game," Edwards said.
"Our batting has been solid throughout the season, but we could definitely improve on our fielding and the match with StJohns will provide the opportunity to do so.
"It's important we build form heading into the finals."
Edwards has been impressed by the form of his two more experienced campaigners Chris Camenzuli and Dale McLeod this season and says they
will be "very important players" come finals.
"Chris is our most experienced player and has been really consistent with the ball, and he's also our opening bats-
man.
"Dale can take a game away from anyone when he's batting well and we'll be looking to him to be at his best in our next few matches."
As for potential finals opponents, Edwards hopes his side will meet league leaders and rivals Melton Centrals in the most important game of the season.
"We'll be hoping to meet them in the final and we had a great match
against them earlier in the season, which we lost by only two wickets," Edwards said.
