IT was a "shear" joy for Bacchus Marsh Grammar teacher Bryce Durham to shave his hair and raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Mr Durham was one of thousands who clipped or coloured their hair for the World's Greatest Shave event last week. The fund-raiser helps the Leukaemia Foundation provide free services to support patients and families living with blood disorders.
It's the second time Mr Durham has taken part.
"I first did the shave in 2007 and had a lot of support, raising just under $400 for the foundation. My family has been
touched by cancer so it's important to me to fight it any way I can."
Each year, about 10,000 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder, and 40,000 are estimated to be already living with one.
"Everyone is linked to cancer, be it a family member, friend or work colleague," Mr Durham said. "Being involved in these events raises awareness and funds for research and treatment, and I like the concept of shaving the head as it has its link with cancer treatment.
