School 'wins' free recycling

16 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
STAUGHTON College students' good recycling habits have enabled the school to get free weekly recycling services from Melton Council.

The school has used a number of methods to increase recycling, such as separating paper and cardboard, setting up a worm farm and compost bins, and promoting the issue of recycling across the school.

The school tracks its waste levels and has a student environmental group that helped during 'clean up schools day' this month.

The recycling measures allowed the school to become accredited with the Australian Sustainable Schools Victoria ResourceSmart waste program; that qualified it for free recycling assistance from the council.

The college is the third Melton school to get recycling services.

Schools interested in free recycling services can call the council's environment educator on 97477200.
