Ride for life

09 Mar, 2010 12:00 AM
CHILDREN like grade 5 Melton South pupil Rebecca Russell are being encouraged to get fit and healthy by walking, cycling, skating or riding a scooter to school on National Ride2School day next Wednesday.

The program, run year-round, aims to change students' travel habits.

Melton mayor Cr Justin Mammarella said walking or riding to school encouraged healthy lifestyles. "Getting a good start to the day is extremely important for children. Riding or walking to school increases physical activity levels and helps children feel fresh and more alert at the beginning of the day."
