Pykes Creek reels in visitors

10 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
FATHER of three Johnny Ivakovic (pictured) took delight in teaching children Jacob (front), Tiara and Thomas how to throw a reel and catch a fish as temperatures soared last week.

They were among the many Moorabool residents who flocked to Pykes Creek reservoir near Ballan to fish, swim or jet-ski.

Although the reservoir was unsafe for swimming and fishing last summer due to a blue-green algae outbreak, a Southern Rural Water spokeswoman said the water was now clear and ready for recreational use.

"We measure every fortnight, and as of now it's certainly clear," she said.

She said that with the use of jet skis and other water craft increasing at Pykes Creek, it was vital to follow marine safety rules and regulations.
