KEEN cooks and bakers are being urged to dig out Nanna's cherished apple pie recipe.
Moorabool is again searching for the best humble apple pie as part of next month's fifth annual harvest festival.
Aromas of buttery pastry, cinnamon and cloves have been wafting out of Bacchus Marsh's Angelo's Bakery in the lead-up to the event, with apprentice Matthew Phillips, 18 (pictured), happy to show locals how it's done.
He will enter the 18-plus category, which is open to everyone, from home cooks to pastry chefs.
There's also a category for under-17s. The competition will again be judged by Bacchus Marsh local and Cake Decorating School of Australia founder Ian Pertzel.
Judging is at 2pm on March 18 at Bacchus Hill Winery and Restaurant.
Bacchus Marsh Tourism Association president David Durham says last year's contest brought fierce competition and dozens of entries.
"With even more entries we can't wait to see who takes the cake during this year."
The festival showcases Moorabool's vineyards, orchards and market gardens.
