DOES Caroline Springs need a pool and arts centre? Melton Shire deputy mayor Kathy Majdlik is asking the question, requesting council to investigate the need for the two facilities.
At last week's council meeting, she asked the council to look at options for an entertainment centre in the eastern corridor of the shire.
Cr Majdlik said the preliminary master plan for Caroline Springs' town centre had included a performing arts centre. However, the site was deemed inadequate to accommodate such a facility. A smaller space was constructed as part of Lakeside Secondary College under a joint-use arrangement.
Caroline Springs Residents Association president Joy Cox welcomed Cr Majdlik's proposal, saying the nearest pools for residents were in St Albans, Sunshine or Melton.
"There's only a smaller learn-to-swim centre in Caroline Springs, but it's not enough with all the young people we have in the area. "
Council's community services general manager Maurie Heaney said the resource plan did not include provision for the capital cost of such assets.
"Our eastern growth corridor community could be enhanced by the provision of some form of aquatic facility and arts centre," Mr Anderson said. "The ability for council officers to formally respond to the notice without motion will demonstrate any probable capital and operational costs."
