PACIFIC Hydro has formally lodged a new planning application with Moorabool Council for a wind farm at Yaloak South.
The application seeks approval for a wind farm with a maximum of 14 wind generators and a capacity of 29.4MW.
The proposed wind farm is located about 14 kilometres south of Ballan on private farmland known as Yaloak Estate.
A previous application by Pacific Hydro for a larger 70-turbine, 115MW wind farm at Yaloak was refused by then Victorian minister for planning Rob Hulls in March 2005. That application was rejected because of the visual impact and potential effect on the area's wedge-tail eagle population. It also met with community opposition.
Pacific Hydro's decision last year to resubmit its application angered local residents.
Mt Wallace's Janene Skidmore told the Express Telegraph the new turbines would leave her property surrounded by pylons. "I don't want to move house; I just want to try and stop them from coming."
Glenmore resident Kevin Ramholdt, who served as the residents' spokesman in 2005, accused Pacific Hydro of overlooking previous concerns and feared the company was now trying to relodge the originally rejected application in three parts.
The new proposed site is within the southern section of the previous application.
Since the previous application was rejected, the company said it had consulted with local community organisations, council and other statutory bodies as well as residents, in an effort to comply with the minister's report. The report said future proposals would be considered if the visual impact on the the area and potential impact on bird life was reduced to an acceptable level.
Pacific Hydro government and corporate affairs manager Andrew Richards said the project was expected to produce enough emission-free electricity to power the equivalent of about 18,000 Victorian homes each year, abating to about 100,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas annually.
Moorabool Council is expected to advise how the community can make submissions shortly.
