Mothers Network is top community group

24 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
A MELTON mothers' group that has supported countless local women has been recognised for its contribution to the community.

Mothers Network was selected as the shire's community organisation of the year.

Diggers Rest mother and network president Deborah Watson said members were excited with the win.

She said the group, which was formed in 2003, had about 300 members from across the municipality.

Mrs Watson said support groups were crucial for all mothers, who face many challenges after giving birth and returning home.

A council spokesman said the meetings were particularly important for isolated or overwhelmed mothers who did not have other support networks to help them through the various stages of motherhood.

Activities run by the group include a kinder gym, playgroups and parenting information sessions.
