HEAVY rains and storm conditions kept State Emergency Service personnel busy throughout Moorabool and Melton on Wednesday night and through Thursday.
The SES received more than 200 calls after fierce thunderstorms struck about 1pm, flooding shops and homes across Bacchus Marsh and Melton.
A Bacchus Marsh supermarket lost part of its roof and the casualty ward of Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital was swamped with water during the brief but intense storms. Water also came through the roof of Stoney’s Pub in Grant Street and many shop fronts in Main Street.
SES spokesman Allan Briggs said about 80 calls were received from Bacchus Marsh and 30 from Melton after the storms hit.
He said crews were busy cleaning up through the night, with residents seeking help for fallen trees and flooding.
Power to up to 5000 homes was cut across the region as a result of the wild weather, which also grounded most flights into and from Melbourne Airport throughout the afternoon.
More to come.
