A MELTON councillor at the centre of controversy over a decision to join Gloaming Ride and Thrice Lane says he has received death threats.
Melton Council last week voted to join the two streets as a single thoroughfare.
Tempers flared and two people were ejected from the gallery during a heated debate.
Cr Broden Borg said someone had written "You're dead" in the condensation on his car windscreen after the meeting. He said the matter had been referred to Melton police and he had witnesses to the act.
Melton police said they would look into the matter after they discussed it with Cr Borg.
Cr Borg stood by his decision to support the streets' opening, despite an officer's report recommending they remain closed.
"Nothing is going to happen until after the duplication of Centenary Avenue and even then it still has to go through the budgetary process.
"Duplication is not a priority until 2012," Cr Borg said.
Emergency services have a key to the locked gates that separate Gloaming Ride and Thrice Land, but Cr Borg said that was not good enough.
"What happens if they can't find the key or if they are in another area [and can't get to Gloaming Ride in time]?" he asked.
Cr Borg's political party affiliations were questioned during the meeting when an audience member asked if he was doing the groundwork for Melton Labor MP Don Nardella, who was thought to be buying a property in the area.
"That is complete and utter rubbish," Cr Borg said. "It's upsetting they think I'm basing my decisions on politics."
Mr Nardella said he had bought a house in Kurunjang about three weeks ago, but he had not meddled in the Gloaming Ride-Thrice Lane saga.
"That's crap. It's just outrageous," he said. "It's an issue that has been going for eight years. This is a slight against me and Broden, and it's wrong."
Mr Nardella said the threats against Cr Borg were appalling.
