CEO Dobrzynski resigns

09 Mar, 2010 10:18 AM
OUTGOING Moorabool chief executive Robert Dobrzynski says water supply, windfarm development, bushfire risk and infrastructure are among the biggest issues facing

the shire.

Mr Dobrzynski resigned last week after 71/2 years with the council to take up a general manager position at Launceston City Council.

While it had been an honour to be CEO of Moorabool, he said there were many challenges that came with the role.

He also said the council needed to get better at lobbying government for funds. "The greatest challenge is working with a council that has limited financial means and a growing community which demands infrastructure investment."

But Mr Dobrzynski said he was proud of his achievements, which include purchasing the Darley Secondary campus and securing the Anthonys Cutting realignment project.

Mayor Cr Pat Toohey said Mr Dobrzynski had put in a lot of effort for the community. "Robert had a strong advocacy on behalf of water issues throughout the shire and was instrumental in the rollout of the Moorabool Communities in Action network."

Former councillor Peter Russell was one of the councillors who selected Mr Dobrzynski as CEO and described him as a professional man.

"He had a difficult job here with a diverse shire [whose people] want everything their way," Cr Russell said.

Last year, a proposal to sell land to Spyglass Property for a retail precinct development, including shops and a cinema, was endorsed by Mr Dobrzynski. But after a community campaign against the development it was rejected by the councillors.

Mr Dobrzynski said while he was pleased to implement the council's decision, the development would have added value to the current offering in the Bacchus Marsh CBD.

"People move into areas such as Moorabool because it's different to the city and it's about striking the right balance with the community."

Mr Dobrzynski will finish with council on May 7. The council will advertise for the CEO position at a later date. In the meantime, an acting CEO will be appointed.
