Car hits tree: driver has neck fractures

31 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
POLICE say a woman was lucky to survive when her car crashed into a tree on the side of the Melton Highway last week. On Tuesday about 2pm emergency services were called to the scene 500 metres west of Leakes Road intersection.

Sergeant Trevor Williams, of the Melton highway patrol, said it appeared the woman lost control as she drove towards Melton. Her car had travelled sideways before hitting the tree.

The driver suffered three fractures to her neck, but Sergeant Williams said she could have been more seriously injured as her car was extensively damaged.

He said the area was an accident black spot.
