Behind the lines a star's in the wings

ALIZA Stirling (pictured) dreams of one day gracing a Broadway stage, perhaps reciting famous lines from Cats or Les Miserables.

The Bacchus Marsh 12-year-old has been presented with a Rotary award for excellence in the arts.

"I'd love to win an Oscar," she says. "That's my dream."

After taking part in many plays and productions at Coimadai Primary School, she's looking forward to the acting and radio opportunities that may arise in her first year of high school at Mowbray College.

Aliza was one of 17 Moorabool students awarded a Rotary prize for excellence and leadership. Each received a plaque and $100 cheque.

Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club president Brian Gaffney says the club supports local young people through a number of programs.

"We want to encourage and reward students who show leadership or perform well in a field of their school life."
