Kmart doorman Albert Peck's cheerful smile has long endeared him to people, and now his popularity has gone right to the top of the company. At a recent function, the managing director of Kmart Australia and New Zealand gave a special presentation to Mr Peck. "I was blushing, I am very humble," Mr Peck said. But perhaps he should be accustomed to accolades. About 4000 fans have shown their appreciation on social networking website Facebook, with a page "Albert is the greatest door greeter in history" dedicated to Mr Peck.
His love of greeting shoppers also came to the attention of Rotary Club of Melton Valley, which awarded Mr Peck a "pride of workmanship" award earlier this year. Mr Peck has been in the position for almost seven years, after a former career as a manager of shopping centres, including Woodgrove. Will he now ask for a pay raise or promotion? "No, I love my job. I enjoy turning customers into friends."
