Artists' vane attempt

21 Apr, 2009 04:00 AM
A GROUP of Ballan artists hope to turn the town into the weather vane capital of the world.

Velislav "Will" Georgiev came up with the idea after moving to Ballan seven years ago and noticing the frequency of windy days.

He felt inspired by the wooden "wind birds" created by local craftsman Eddie Strickland that already dotted the town.

Georgiev and the artists' group, including Sarah Springfield, Merv and Sue Bartleman, hope to build a unique tourist identity for Ballan.

Georgiev already has two weather vanes on Main Street: one at the newsagency, the other at number 157.

The project can be followed online at http://1000weathervanesinballan.b logspot.com/ or phone Will Georgiev on 0407 823 152.
